I know I post a lot about Graffiti art related events, and the effect is usually the same: If you’re into it, you already know about it and plan to attend. If you aren’t into it, then you couldn’t care less. So I’m making it a special point to say: Even if you have absolutely zero interest in graf – even if you have never attended a gallery in your life, if you are in Kansai for the next couple days, go. Go. GO.

Osaka’s beautiful bay side art space CASO is holding the gallery. Several massive rooms, housing pieces of over 30 artists. Writers from every Japanese island are at this thing – no joke – for the full list of talent check out the flyer/sticker at the organizer’s site!

Best of all, there’s going to be live painting on all 3 days (as I understand it). Unfortunately, this is a super limited engagement but well worth a few hours of your weekend! (If you’re in Minami, just hop the Chuo subway line to Osakakou and hoof it south for about 5 minutes.)

PS – not to be confused this with “Lucky 13″ which I blogged a few weeks back. That’s at Prohibit on the 16th. (Many of the same participants – different works)

ちんちん

隠すのは無理やからここでお知らせする。誕生日お祝い！…無し！静かに３０歳になってもうて… ひいた。おっちゃん時代が始まったぞう！

First, no point in hiding it – I quietly turned ３０ this last month. Or as I prefer to call it by it’s more extreme name “Triple X.” Uh-Hua! From today I am officially old! Yay!

またかよ！

新しい絵を完成した。いつもの形やけど新しい塗り方でやってみた。（アクリルで）5時間ぐらいかな？今度の更新する作品はまぁまぁでっかいからお楽しみにぃ！

Painted like my 100th Hannya mask…. just to try out a different process this time. All in acrylic on board – much more efficient, but always looking for ways to ‘tighten’ the proces. This was a pretty successful painting considering I only put like 5 hours into it. I dunno – you tell me!

もんもんもえぇ！

初Base Yoshimotoにいってみた。やっぱり漫才は最高！！！ライブの途中で大好きな天竺鼠に声かけられた！（どっちも鹿児島出身なので、ライブが終わったらいろんなええ話ができた！）「誰見に来たの？」とみんなの前できかれて、ちょっとテンパっていた僕「モンエン」と言っちゃった。ごめん瀬下アンド川原さん！いつもつこんでくれておおきに！

Went to see Base Yoshimoto for the first time! If you don’t know Osaka Manzai comedy this probably means nothing to you. But goddamn, it was weird. I watch these guys every night on Osaka Tv (all after midnight programs)… how odd to think that I could go buy a ticket at Lawson’s for like JPY1000, walk 10 minutes from my house to Base Yoshimoto and watch the same show live – every week! Manzai is an acquired taste for most non-Japanese, but well worth having if you want to ‘catch the heart’ of Kansai. Monster Engine, JaruJaru, and Kenchiku Nezumi were amazing!!!

ChopChopチョップのライブペイント！

NATTSUのファッションイベント（CHOP!CHOP!CHOP!）で久しぶりにライブペイントした。結果的にどうかなぁ？まだ現場においてあるらしいんで、サム５に行ったらチェックしといてね！

Did some live painting in Nattsu’s event last month. (Chop Chop Chop) It was lots of eye-straining non-alcoholic poorly lit fun… Fun I said, FUN! If you want to see it, I think they kept it up at Sam 5 in Nagahori.

And of course, the same day to day hoodlums, ruffians, and scalawags.

Graffiti Monsters ESOW and ESPY from Tokyo will be teaming up with DEPAS and CASPER from Osaka for another amazing art show!!! The live painting of the front shutter of the DownTown Building (Chopstick 1st Shop) will kick off the opening party. Work from all artists will be on display on the 2nd floor.

If you caught the ’13th floor’ opening on Nagahori last winter then you already know the show is liable to take a few unexpected twists along the way. (Impromptu silk screening, lady-painting, black book swapping, and guest drunks just to name a few)

DJ Very will be keeping the beat topside while the artists work below.

The show opens August 20th – live painting starts after dark!

英語の情報ばっかりですみません！外人の客の為、ブログにのせとこうと思って。みんな、許してね！

If you haven’t already gotten the word, there is an art event coming up this month you have to check out! Only minutes away from the Chopstick Horie Shop on Nagahori Dori, Graffiti masters Esow of Tokyo and Casper of Osaka will be holding a joint gallery event on Saturday, December 22nd!

If you’ve spent any amount of time shopping around Minami you may already be inadvertantly familiar with Casper’s work. From CD covers, jackets, shirts and caps to full size shutters and maybe even your girlsfriend’s chest at a live painting event – Casper’s distinct and unique lettering style is everywhere! Both of these graf virtuosos will be combining forces to create an all new body of work here in Kansai’s own backyard!!

The reception party kicks off at 6:00 with DJs Very and TakeTHC on the 13th floor of the Ai Office Building (yeah, they do have 13th floors here! Directions below) – Come out and see Japanese subculture at it’s best through the eyes of Kansai and Kanto’s unique and highly evolved grafitti masters!

For those folks aborad or otherwise who can’t make it, the gallery will be on display for one month (Until Monday, January 22nd)

アメ村のピザ・カフェのSLICESにてギャラリーを行なってる！今回はタトゥーの写真、いろんなジャンルの作品をだしてみてる！１０月２７日のHalloweenイベントが終わってからかるくオープンした。来月（１１月）の２７日までしてるので是非遊びに来て！１１月１０日は「2回目のオープニングパーティ」なので、Halloweenの時行けなかった人はまだまだ見る機会があるよ！セカンドパーティの為、新作品を追加するのでお楽しみに！

Beginning on Halloween party night after all those events on October 27th, I opened a small art gallery at Slices Cafe in Amemura! Lots of tattoo photos and (as the flyer sez) “works in various mediums” this time around. For those who missed the fun the first time around we’ll be having a second opening on the 10th of November featuring a few new pieces – you’ve got until November 27th to come on down so don’t miss it!

相変わらずミナミのHalloweenイベントが多すぎて、楽しすぎたけどOnziemeで行なったHijakのHalloweenパーティはやっぱり最高だった！マスカレードスタイルなのでゲストの全員は顔が見えないようにマスクをかけていた。めっちゃおもてぇぃ〜。今年は何故か女装無しで、みんなすみません！

Minami was chock full of crazy parties and events as is typical fare for Osaka – but the Hijak party topped them all! Everything was masquerade style so there was plenty of opportunity for pranking and mischief. Look at this heavy freaking thing I walked around with all night! And what’s that you say? No more dresses? Yep, despite winning several contests over the past few years I decided to hang up the skirts and go relax in manly fashion. Nobody seemed all that disappointed!

今年、久しぶりにイベントにでて、ライブペイントをした！ステージの上にのっていたのにめっちゃ暗くて全く見えなかった！なんとなく「髑髏」を描けた気がするけど。あまり厳しく言わんといてな。

My first “live painting” gig in a couple months. Despite being on stage it was super dark so I stuck with familiar subject matter (oh human skull, is there any drawing you can’t save?)
