For the March 2012 issue of Tattoo Burst, I was interviewed by Keroppi for a full 6 page spread. It was a great talk where we gabbed on about tattoos, irezumi, anime, manga, subculture, and everything in between from our respective countries – Japan and America. Last year in September, the world famous ballpen virtuoso SHOHEI had his first Osaka art gallery. As a longtime fan, I did my best to bring as many folks as I could to see the exhibit which I was privileged to have in my own backyard. One of those friends was enamored with SHOHEI’s work and requested the piece as a tattoo design. I don’t normally tattoo art that is not my own, so I was careful to get in touch with the artist himself who kindly granted permission to tattoo the piece.

Here’s the original – a hi-rez version was kindly provided by the artist himself.

まず、もう一回トレースして、ステンシルを作成します。細かい絵なので、ある程度大きくしないとニュアンスがつたわらないものです。
First the careful tracing and stenciling. The piece was fairly large in order to reproduce an appropriate level of detail.

場所に合わせて貼ります！
Next we align to the area – a perfect fit!

そして、結果です！彫るとこんな感じになりました！

パンク、オタク、その他なんでもありなZINE 「FRONTLINE」 Vol. 3がでました！
そして、「ARTIST CLOSEUP KANSAI」のコーナーに参加をさせて頂きました！なんと、大阪のハードコア、オタクのヒーロHEVIさん(コスプレ STUDIO モノリス / CORRUPTED)は個人対個人の率直なインタビューを行って頂きました！アニメ・オタクの文化に関して同じ心を持っているお兄さんと痛タトゥー論をすると、さすがに上がりまくりました！感謝しています！

またフロントラインのみんなが情熱を傾けて、立派な本を作成しました！是非、チェックしてください！

The infamous handcore, punk, and anime zine Frontline releases their 3rd issue!… and even debuted it at last years winter comic market! I was kindly asked to participate in the Artist Closeup corner where I had the honor of being interviewed by none other than Osaka’s charismatic hard core legend, Hevi! (If you know Corrupted than you know who I’m talking about.) Now the proprietor of his own cosplay shop and photo studio in Osaka’s otaku district, Nipponbashi, we had a great one on one candid talk about anime, art, tattoos, hardcore, and everything in between. It’s only natural that I’d get fired up talking with someone who shares the same passion for otaku culture!

The FL team has really pulled out the stops to put out a great 90 page issue – please check it out!

そして、お知らせ！新商品！新しいイカちゃんグッズが出来ました！作成より、ネタを考えるのは難しかったです！
なかなかアイデアがでてこなかった状態でした。やっぱり、こういう場合は原作をもう一回見直すべきだと思いまして…そうすると…大発見！

イカちゃんの友人、清美ちゃん達の組んだ「侵略部」！あのこたちの着ているシャツにのっている女子高生が書く程度の字は全然かわいいねんけど… しっかりしている「侵略部」のロゴマークを作ってあげてくなってきました。その結果はイカ：

INVASION CLUBでゲソ！欧米の大学、サッカークラブのマークをイメージして描いてみました。
縦のしたにあるラテン語の標語も考えてみました：「EMISSARIUS MARIA」
実物は今週中に届くそうです。興味ある人、CT19にでます！（１月１５日）ブース：５号館 I-15ab　（遠方の方、問い合わせフォームを使ってください！）
